The Cumberland Education was happy to announce five grants awarded to these Cumberland Teachers for the 2020-21 Academic Year.

Mary Smith, B.F. Norton Elementary School: Fact Fluency
This grant will benefit all students in grade 2 – 5 who will attend B.F. Norton School for the 2020 – 21 school year. We have received positive feedback from staff as well as students regarding the impact Reflex has had on student learning. We have also had the opportunity to provide enrichment for students in grade 2 who have attained 100% fluency both on Reflex and have demonstrated understanding in their core curriculum. These grade 2 students have been provided instruction for multiplication and have advanced their learning in practicing their fluency for multiplication in multiplication and division.

Monique Johnson, Ashton Elementary School: LEGO Makerspace
This project will be utilized with all the students from kindergarten through grade 5 at Ashton School. All three of the Library/Media/STEM teachers at the elementary level in the Cumberland School District are collaborating to develop makerspace challenges.

Leslee Deslauriers, Garvin Elementary School: STEM Coding using Dash Robot
This grant would impact approximately 240 students. There will be  collaboration with the other STEM teachers in the district to create grade appropriate lessons using Dash so all Cumberland elementary students will have equitable access to this technology.

Cynthia Alexandre, Cumberland High School: A High School Library, Transformed
As this year of transformation has progressed we have seen student use of the Academic Success Center steadily increase and we expect that trend to continue in the years ahead. The addition of flexible seating would position us to best serve the individual learning needs of our students moving forward. Our Academic Success Center serves the entire Cumberland High School community, this grant has the potential to positively impact all of our approximately 1,500 students in grades 9-12.

Susan Cote, McCourt Middle School: McCourt After School Support Program
This program would be open to all students at McCourt Middle School and increase opportunities at McCourt Middle for students to receive the support they need to become proficient in all content areas.
